ポーランドを紹介します！Poland – where’s that?

日本の方から「どの国から来たのですか？」と尋ねられて「ポーランドからです」と答えると、ほとんどの方は驚いて「どこにある国なの？」「どんな国？」と聞かれます。そこで、このブログの最初の投稿で私の母国を紹介したいと思います。
ポーランドはヨーロッパの中央です。隣国が七つあります：ロシア・リトアニア・ベラルーシ・ウクライナ・スロバキア・チェコ・ドイツです。
北はバルト海で南はタトラ山脈です。東ポーランドは湖が沢山あります。ポーランドは四季があり、どこでもいつでも自然と景色がきれいだと言われています。下の写真をご覧ください :
ポーランドの首都はワルシャワです。私の生まれた町からワルシャワは電車で約2時間ほどです。そして、私は約８年前にワルシャワ大学の日本学科で勉強するためにワルシャワへ引っ越しました。ワルシャワは活気あるビジネス街で、ポーランドの政治、経済、交通の中枢でもあります。さらに、1990年から日本の浜松市と姉妹都市なのはご存知でしたか？面白いですね！
他にポーランドで人気の都市は、クラクフとグダニスクです。クラクフはポーランドで最も歴史ある都市の１つで、17世紀初頭にワルシャワへ遷都するまではポーランドの首都でした。古い建物が多く残り、とても美しい街です。
グダニスクはバルト海に面し主要貿易港の１つであり、また政治的な場面においても重要な役割を果たした都市でもあります。1944年からポーランドはソビエト連邦の影響を受け、共産主義国となりました。しかし80年代、グダニスクの造船所にポーランドで最初の非共産党組合「連帯」がレフ・ヴァウェンサに率いられ設立されました。この運動は1989年にポーランドの民主化をもたらし、ヴァウェンサは1983年にノーベル平和賞を受賞しました。
ポーランドは長く興味深い歴史の国なので美術館や、古い建物がたくさんあり、季節にかかわらずどこへ行っても感動するような美しい景色をながめることができます。またポーランド人はホスピタリティで知られているので、きっとみなさんをおもてなしします。ヨーロッパへ旅行する際にはぜひポーランドにも来てください！

Poland – where’s that?
Usually, when Japanese hear that I’m from Poland, they are surprised. The first question they ask is often “where is that” or “what kind of country is it”? Bearing this in mind I thought, that it would be good to start the blog with some introduction of my motherland.
Poland is located in the center of Europe and is surrounded by seven neighbor countries: Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Germany
On the north, there is the Baltic Sea and on the south, you can find a mountain range – Tatry Mountains, which forms a natural border between Poland and Slovakia. East part of the country is full of lakes and rivers. With every season the landscape looks very different so you can enjoy beautiful views almost anytime anywhere. Just take a look:
The capital city of Poland is Warsaw. My hometown is located about two hours away by train. I moved to Warsaw about eight years ago, when I started Japanese studies. Warsaw is lively business city and also a political, economic and transportation hub of Poland. And did you know that since 1990 the sister city of Warsaw is Japanese Hamamatsu?!
Other distinctive Polish cities are Cracow and Gdansk. Cracow is one of the oldest cities in my country. In the 17th century, before Warsaw became a capital city, Cracow was handling this title. There are plenty of old buildings and a beautiful old town.
Gdansk is located at the seaside and is the major trade port in Poland. It also played a significant role on the political scene. From 1944 Poland was under Soviet Union influence and became a communist country. In 80s Gdansk shipyard was a place, where the first Polish non-communist union party was founded. The group was called “Solidarity” and was led by Lech Walesa, who has been rewarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983.
Poland is a country of long, interesting history so you can drop in many museums and admire old architecture. No matter of the season, wherever you go, you will find yourself in beautiful scenery. What is more, Poles are known for their hospitality, so undoubtedly they will take care of you. If you planning a trip to Europe, Poland should be one of your destinations!
